Now, let the planning begin! You’ll receive my Style Guide and Locations guide to help you prepare. We’ll engage in a conversation about your vision and start outlining the details for your special photoshoot.
Can you recommend a nice location?
Absolutely! When you choose to book with me, you’ll gain access to my specially crafted Style Guide. This comprehensive guide showcases a curated collection of stunning photoshoot locations in the Bay Area that I’ve accumulated over the years. Each location is accompanied by vivid pictures, capturing its unique ambiance. Whether you’re drawn to the carefree beaches, romantic floral parks, or the boho golden hills, each spot exudes a distinct vibe. This allows you to select the location that perfectly aligns with your vision, ensuring your pictures are uniquely and authentically yours!
What should we wear?
This question always arises when discussing the photoshoot with a client. Here’s how I approach it: first, decide on the vibe you are going for. Boho with golden light, hills, and sunset? Romantic with florals in a garden? Carefree at the beach? Minimalist with cityscapes? Then, choose a location from my Photoshoot Locations Guide. After that, follow my Photography Style Guide for color palettes and outfit ideas for every type of location. For example, earthy tones and relaxed fit look best on Bay Area hills with dry grass and a desert-like look, florals and pastels are perfect for gardens.
As general tips: no busy prints or logos, wear coordinating but not matching outfits for the family and don’t overthink it! Wear something comfortable, reflecting your style and personality. I’m here to help you every step of the way. After signing the contract, we’ll go over your outfit options together to select the ones that look amazing on pictures while reflecting your personality.
What is the difference between lifestyle and classic newborn photoshoot?
Lifestyle pictures capture the essence of your family during those special first days at home. Unlike posed newborn photography, lifestyle sessions are typically done in the comfort of your own home. These sessions encompass family pictures, moments showcasing the baby’s tiny features, shots with mom and baby, dad and baby, baby with siblings and pets (if any), and images capturing nursery decor. There’s no specific age limit for these pictures, and they can be conducted either at home or in an outdoor setting. This option is ideal for parents who appreciate minimalist, natural photos or for families with older babies.
On the other hand, Newborn Classic photography involves using props and various outfits. During these sessions, I bring all the necessary props such as baskets, flowers, blankets, wraps, outfits, headbands, accessories, studio lighting, backdrops, and more. You’ll witness the transformation of your home into a temporary photo studio as I create different setups, dress, wrap, and pose the baby to achieve perfect pictures. Feel free to explore my portfolio for some examples of this style!
How to prepare for newborn photoshoot?
Choose a room with natural light for prop setup. Declutter the space for a clean backdrop, often in the nursery, master bedroom, or living room. Opt for neutral or pastel-colored outfits for a cohesive family look. Personalize the session with special blankets, toys, or clothing items. Explore Pinterest for pose inspiration, though I handle posing and value your input. Bring a pacifier to soothe the baby and attention-grabbing toys for captivating shots. Be patient, as babies can be unpredictable; a relaxed atmosphere yields better photos.
Morning Before the Session: Ideally, have a tired and hungry baby. Feed right before the session to induce a deep sleep. Keep the baby awake for 1-2 hours before, even though it’s challenging. Ensure the morning diaper isn’t too tight to avoid marks.
During the Session: Maintain a warm room for a relaxed baby. Safety is paramount; I won’t force uncomfortable poses. All props are disinfected, and studio lighting is baby-safe. I’m fully vaccinated and prioritize hygiene, changing into clean clothes, frequent handwashing, and wearing a mask throughout the session.
What exactly is a "setup" in my newborn session?
A setup is a complete composition designed to highlight your baby in a beautiful, timeless way. It typically includes:
- A background: This could be a soft fabric, textured backdrop, or natural scenery such as florals or greenery.
- A prop: We’ll use a variety of props like baskets, bowls, swings, or floral wreaths to create a cozy and artistic environment.
- Personal touches: To give each setup variety, I add accessories like headbands, soft blankets, toys, and floral elements. Each setup can look different by changing out these accessories, and sometimes I’ll make adjustments to create additional variety in the same setup.
How many setups do we get in each package?
Each package includes a set number of complete setups. For example:
- Newborn Classic: 3-4 setups
- Newborn Deluxe: 4-6 setups
- Newborn Royal: 5-8 setups
Each setup includes a background, prop, and variety of accessories, allowing for a diverse gallery of images. The number of setups depends on the package you choose. You can also upgrade your package to include additional setups if you’d like more variety!
What’s the difference between a macro shot and a posing table shot?
Macro shots are close-up images of your newborn’s tiny hands, feet, and other small details. These shots are intimate and capture the beauty of your baby’s delicate features.
A posing table shot involves gently posing your newborn on a comfortable surface (usually in a wrapped pose or an outfit), creating soft, serene images. These shots focus on your baby’s expressions and natural beauty. We try to minimize the time spent on the posing table to ensure your baby stays comfortable and safe throughout the session.
Can I add more setups or family members to my session?
Yes! You can add extra setups, siblings, and grandparents to your session for an additional fee. For example, if you’d like more variety or would like to include extended family in your photos, we can adjust the session accordingly. Let us know your preferences, and we’ll make it happen!
